The government has spent a total of MVR 1,222.2 million for Covid-19 response efforts in the health and social sector.
According to the latest figures publicized by the Ministry of Finance on Monday for the Covid-19 weekly expenses, the total amount spent in the health and social sectors by September 10 sits at MVR 1,222 million which is a one percent increase in comparison to the previous week.
50.8 percent of the total expenditure in both sectors was committed spending and the past week saw a significant contribution from the Ministry of Health, in comparison to other top contributing frontline agencies in terms of week-on-week spending.
The ministry spent a total of MVR 190.3 million out of which a majority was spent to procure supplies and requisites for service provision, approximately MVR 83.1 million. Other areas include capital equipment for which the ministry spent MVR 78.1 million by September 10. MVR 16 million was spent on operational services as well. 47 percent of the ministry’s expenses for the week was on operational services for Covid-19 response.
As of September 10, the Health Ministry, Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and the National Disaster Management Authority remained the top contributors, having covered 91.5 percent of the total expenditure in health and social Covid-19 response efforts.
Since the Covid-19 recovery efforts began, NDMA has spent a total of MVR 856.4 million out of which 362.8 million was to acquire supplies and requisites for service provision, MVR 112.5 million for capital equipment as well as MVR 101 million for operational services.
Further, out of the MVR 71.3 million covered by IGMH, MVR 62.9 million was to procure supplies and requisites for service provision, 4.3 million for capital equipment and 2.6 million for supplies and requisites.
The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure spent a total of MVR 37.3 million out of which MVR 36.9 million was for land and buildings.
MVR 10.2 million out of the MVR 28.4 million covered by the Ministry of Tourism under its Tourism Activities Implementation Fund were for operational services and the ministry also spent 4.8 million for repairs and maintenance.
Having contributed MVR 15.5 in Covid-19 health and social efforts, the Maldives National Defense Force (MDNF) spent 12.4 million for supplies and requisites as well as 2.6 million for repairs and maintenance.
The government spent a total of MVR 519 million in supplies and requisites for service provision, MVR 198.2 million in capital equipment as well as MVR 129 million for operational services.
