New cases of the global Covid-19 pandemic have been reported from two islands in Haa Alif atoll.

The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) noted that samples collected from two individuals to be released from home quarantine tested positive for the coronavirus.

The patients are a 57-year-old man from Kelaa island and 22-year-old woman from Dhidhdhoo island.

According to the latest statistics provided by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Covid-19 cases had been discovered from a total of 25 islands thus far. With the development, Covid-19 cases have been confirmed from two islands in Haa Alif atoll now, while it was just one in latest statistics.

The authorities made it mandatory to wear face masks in public spaces in islands where there have been confirmed positive cases, as a measure to curb the spread of the virus among communities.

HEOC earlier revealed that islands will only be brought under monitoring if individuals who test positive are to have violated home quarantine regulations.

Further, it has also been noted that if positive cases do not fit in high-risk categories, they will not be taken into quarantine facilities.

Although there has been a drop in cases being reported in the Greater Malé Region of recent, positive cases that are being detected from residential islands, are observably surging.
