Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), Ali Hashim has been under quarantine after being identified as a primary contact of a Covid-19 patient.
This was revealed at Tuesday’s meeting of the parliament's whole house committee, where Hashim along with some other officials were to be questioned regarding the management of the state debt.
Hashim along with Auditor General Hassan Ziyath were summoned to the parliament’s whole house committee meeting on Tuesday, as well as incumbent Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer and former Finance Ministers Abdulla Jihad and Ahmed Munawwar.
During the meeting, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed announced that the governor was unable to attend in person as he is under quarantine after being identified as a primary contact of a Covid-19 case. However, Hashim joined the meeting virtually.
56 MPs voted in favour of questioning the five officials in relation to the debt management issue, at a committee meeting held on Monday.
