A deceased expatriate that was taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Deputy Director at the Ministry of Health, Thasleema Usman revealed to RaajjeMV that the expatriate, a 29-year-old Bangladeshi man was taken to IGMH at around 3am on Friday.

Tests were conducted on the deceased and results came back positive for the infection. However, this death has not been declared a Covid-19 death.

Thasleema further revealed that the deceased had previously shown symptoms of the virus. However, the death has not been deemed a Covid-19 death.

Under the set protocols, all deceased individuals are tested for Covid-19. Contact tracing is currently underway.

A total of six Bangladeshi nationals have succumbed to Covid-19 in the island nation thus far. Further, 10 Maldivians and one Filipino national also died from the virus.

Maldives reported the 16th death to Covid-19 on Thursday, when a 71-year-old Maldivian woman passed away.
