The two-member team from the Maldives Police Service (MPS), who had traveled to Bangladesh to assist in the investigation into the unnatural death of Maldivian student Raudha Athif, has returned to the Maldives.

Speaking to RaajjeMV on Monday, media official at MPS confirmed that the team has returned, but refused to divulge further on the case, saying that the information ‘will be shared with the media’.

When asked if it had provided any information to help the family file the case in court, the media official said that the institution has been providing all assistance required in the case.

While the case has been filed at Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court by her father, Dr. Mohamed Athif on Monday, MPS had, on Thursday, revealed that it was able to unlock Raudha’s iPhone, adding that crucial information had been obtained from the phone. However, the documents submitted to court did not mention any information found from her phone.

Raudha’s family filed a case against Seerat Parveen Mahmud from Kashmir, India, at the Bangladeshi Court on Monday, noting that Raudha had had issues with her, as well as various other inconsistencies in her death.

While the family had sought assistance from Maldivian authorities after noticing suspicious activities on Raudha’s Instagram account, the documents filed at court noted this as well, linking it to their main suspect, Seerat.

Despite the autopsy report ruling the Raudha’s death a suicide, her family maintains that she would not have committed suicide, calling her death ‘a well-planned murder’.

Prior to her sudden death, Raudha, 21, had been getting international recognition as a fashion model, and was featured on the cover of Vogue Magazine India in October 2016. She was found dead in her dorm room in Bangladesh on March 29.
