Council of the ruling coalition partner, Jumhooree Party (JP) has proposed to dismiss Ali Waheed as the party’s leader.
The proposal was made by a council member after sexual abuse claimed against the recently dismissed Tourism Minister surfaced on Wednesday night.
Following the allegations, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ordered Waheed to resign and consecutively stripped him from the ministerial post on Thursday after he failed to forward a resignation letter.
Waheed is also accused to sexually harassing JP member and Transport Minister Aishath Nahula, at a time audio calls between the two were leaked.
The claims of sexual harassment against employees at the ministry, are being investigated by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
Waheed is accused of sexually harassing employees during ministry’s resort trips on a number of occasions.
