Court sets date for new terror case against ex-President
Terrorism charges were raised against Nasheed over President Yameen's detention in Aarah in 2010

Criminal Court has scheduled the preliminary hearing against former President Mohamed Nasheed for April 26.
The exiled former President is facing a fresh set of terrorism charges over the 2010 arrest of President Abdulla Yameen, then parliament representative for Mulaku constituency.
While the preliminary hearing was initially scheduled for March 29, Court had to cancel the hearing after failure to deliver its summon. The case was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office on February 27.
President Yameen was detained on July 14th 2010, taken to Aarah and released nine days later on the 23rd. He was arrested by the military after his release from police custody, amid reports that bribes were being funneled to lawmaker to remove Nasheed, then President.
Nasheed’s government maintains that Yameen had been detained ‘for his own safety’, as passed by the National Security Committee.
While Nasheed has been charged over the arrest, terrorism charges have been raised against his Defence Minister Ameen Faisal as well.
Nasheed Administration’s Chief of Defence Moosa Ali Jaleel was also summoned to the police headquarters, but charges have not been raised against him.
Former President Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment on March 13, 2015, over the arrest of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed in 2012.
