Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has revealed that the Green Tax collected through the state revenue for May, plunged by 89%.
In a publication, the authority highlights its statistics for monthly revenue collection which reads that MIRA collected MVR 7,960,595 as Green Tax during May 2020.
However, statistics have revealed that the state collected over MVR 77.6 million in Green Tax, during the same period of the previous year.
Further, it has been noted that the state collected MVR 279,691,320 as green tax from January to May 2020, whereas the amount was at MVR 402,418,686 during the same period last year.

MIRA revealed that they received over MVR five billion through taxes from January to May this year, while the amount was at MVR seven billion during the same period last year.
Maldives began collecting Green Tax during 2016 and USD six is collected as Green Tax from every tourist, for each night of their stay in the Maldives.
