NEOC brushes off reports of frontline doctor testing positive for Covid-19
Dr. Moosa urged individuals to refrain from spreading false reports on social media

Social media users have been claiming that the doctor had contracted the virus

The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has urged citizens to refrain from spreading false information, after reports of Pulmonologist at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and one of the frontline workers of government’s Covid-19 response efforts, Dr. Moosa Hussain testing positive for Covid-19, began circulating on social media.

The task force’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz refuted these claims and brushed them off as false information during Monday’s press briefing, citing the doctor having said that this has churned unnecessary fear among the doctor’s friends, family and patients.

Social media users have been claiming that Dr. Moosa had tested positive for the virus and it was only confirmed through antibody tests after he had recovered.

Taking to Facebook following the circulation of the reports, the state-run hospital’s doctor confirmed that he is indeed in good health and that he has never had samples taken for Covid-19 testing.

Dr. Moosa has since urged the public to refrain from sharing such misinformation among the society.
