Authorities have decided to allow sports activities and events to restart, in the outlying islands.
This comes at a time the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has permitted congregational prayers across islands that have not been placed under monitoring due to the Covid-19 pandemic, from last Friday.
These islands have requested for the permission to restart sports activities, said the youth ministry.
Following this, the sports ministry released a statement on Tuesday, which reads that the approval has been granted to islands that have surpassed 14 days since monitoring measures were lifted, and ones where Covid-19 cases were not discovered.
This was done following discussions with the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
However, the ministry noted that they do not encourage activities that require public gatherings of any sort and went on to encourage island residents to practice social distancing despite the approval.
Further, the statement reads that the decision may be revoked at any time.
As part of the several precautionary measures placed by the government across the island nation to control the spread of Covid-19, sports activities were halted, with stadiums and centers being closed since March 15.
