Schools to reopen after first term holidays, at the earliest

Schools will reopen after the first term holidays, at the earliest.

National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s spokesperson revealed this at Thursday night’s Covid-19 press briefing.

While authorities have revealed plans to ease Covid-19 restriction measures, they were asked on the school reopening process at the conference.

Noting that these discussions are ongoing between the education ministry and other relevant institutions, Mabrook emphasized that schools will reopen after the term break at the earliest.

He said that the ministry had informed them of three scenarios for schools to reopen, and that they will decide on which one to go with after discussions with health professionals.

While schools have been closed following the Covid-19 pandemic, as per the academic calendar 2020, the first term holidays is from May 31 to June 11. While June 11 is a Thursday, the second term is to start on June 14 after the weekend.

Schools went on mid-term holidays shortly after the detection of the country's first Covid-19 case and even though this was from a resort, authorities made the decision to delay the reopening of schools on March 11. However, with the declaration of the public health emergency, schools were closed indefinitely.
