Health Minister Abdulla Ameen has responded to questions by the People’s Majlis, shortly after being accused of violating parliamentary regulations and the Maldives Constitution.

Majlis released a statement saying that the minister had failed to respond to the set of questions with the required period, adding that the speaker views this as “a violation of parliamentary regulations as well as the Maldivian constitution”.

Noting that a 14-day period is given to respond under Article 74 of the Constitution, the People’s Majlis said that the health minister had failed to send in a response before this period expired at 2pm on Monday (April 27).

While the statement accusing the minister of violating regulations and the constitution was tweeted on Tuesday evening, Majlis’ Director of Media Communication Hassan Ziyau said that Ameen had sent in his response via e-mail shortly after.

South Mahchangoalhi MP Haitham Ahmed had proposed to question the minister regarding ventilators to be imported to the country for Covid-19 response efforts.

The questions were forwarded to the minister on April 14.
