Dhiraagu has revealed their decision to postpone the 14th edition of the “Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race”, due to the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Maldives.
The largest annual run held in the Maldives is among the many events cancelled by the telecommunications giant. As such, Dhiraagu decided not to host any major events that involve public gatherings this year, in order to ensure the government’s social distancing protocol, which is “key to contain the spread” of the virus.
Thousands of runners across the globe joins the international event each year and is one of the most anticipated events from the telecom provider.
It is indeed a sad decision for all of us to postpone the event. However, we would not hesitate to place the highest priority on the health and safety of our runners, supporters and the community which would always come first.”Dhiraagu
Dhiraagu maintains that it is “fully focused” on responding to Covid-19 in its efforts to support its customers, staff as well as the government and authorities, as the country faces the impacts of the pandemic.
With the hope to make preparations to have a “bigger and better” event next year, Dhiraagu has expressed appreciation for the love and continued support received over the past 13 years from all participants of the event.
The telecom provider assured its commitment to practice the “sporting values of responsibility and solidarity” as the community fights the pandemic and has urged the people to strictly follow the instructions by health experts and authorities.
