Guraidhoo island in Kaafu atoll has been placed under quarantine.

This was done after an island resident exhibited Covid-19 like symptoms and the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has notified the island council of this.

The notice reads that tests will be carried out on the individual.

With this measure, island residents are banned from leaving the island and people are banned from entering the island as well, until further notice.

Other islands under monitoring include Nolhivaram, Vaikaradhoo and Hirimaradhoo in Haa Dhaal atoll as well as Maarendhoo, Hoarafushi, Thuraakunu, Ihavandhoo and Uligan in Haa Alif atoll alongside JOALI Maldives Bodufushi Resort Construction Site and Maldiviana Safari.

The Greater Malé Region has been under lockdown since the discovery of the first community transmission last Wednesday.

As part of the stringent measures being implemented by the authority, HPA also restricted travel between all inhabited islands earlier.
