Dhiggaru island in Meemu atoll has been added to the list of islands which have been placed under monitoring.
The island council released a statement on Monday, highlighting that the monitoring measures were placed on the island as of 2pm, Monday.
This comes after samples were taken from an individual on the island who exhibited Covid-19 symptoms.
The island will be kept under monitoring for a period of one week.
Island residents have been urged to remain indoors during this period and authorities have warned of action if residents are seen out of their homes while monitoring measures are in place.
Further, the statement reads that island residents may contact the island’s social support desk for assistance in basic needs.
The island council’s president, Ahmed Nishan has revealed to RaajjeMV that the individual is to have developed symptoms after returning from a resort, where he is employed.
The individual tested negative to the disease the first time round, and the results of the second sample are to be disclosed as soon as possible.
This comes at a time travel between all inhabited islands has been banned by authorities following the discovery of the first community transmission in the Maldives capital last week, as well as an order for all that travelled to the outlying islands from the capital from April 15 to self-isolate and inform relevant authorities.
