Island councils have begun strengthening measures being implemented against the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Several measures have been taken for the protection of residents in southernmost Addu City, Fuvahmulah City as well as Kulhudhuffushi City such as enforcing residents to stay home in order to curb the spread of the pandemic into the island communities.

While several islands are closing restaurants and cafés and opting for delivery services, residents have also been urged to remain indoors and refrain from social gatherings such as fishing trips, picnics as well as parties.

Some islands have even urged arrivals within the past 14 days to self-isolate for a period of 14 days since the emergence of cluster cases in capital Malé City last week.

Further, these individuals have also been urged to reach out to authorities if they exhibit Covid-19-like symptoms.

Island councils have also strengthened measures by implementing screening procedures for arrivals and collecting their information.

Several isolation facilities have also been established across islands in order to curb the spread of the disease, with the formation of task forces in almost all islands.
