The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that all the care packages sent to neighboring Sri Lanka were delivered to the intended recipients on Saturday.

As such, the delivery of 622 care packages in Sri Lanka was completed by Saturday, said the ministry.

About a week earlier, the government completed the delivery of care packages to Maldivian residents in Colombo and the remaining packages were delivered to Maldivian residents in other cities with the help of the Maldivian Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Umar Abdul Razzaq.

The ministry further revealed that 144 packages were delivered to Maldivian residents in India and the delivery of packages out of the total of 452 sent to Malaysia, has been completed in Kuala Lampur. Work is currently underway to deliver the remaining packages to 14 families outside of Kuala Lampur.

As the packages were received in Thailand during the weekend, work will commence once they are cleared by the customs within the ongoing week.

Although the opportunity to send care packages to Maldivians in United Arab Emirates was also opened, it was halted due to the lockdown declared across the capital region and the government will be publicizing details at a later date.

The ministry stressed that they are facing a lot of challenges and hindrances in delivering the care packages and most of the cities are under lockdown.

The country’s national airline, Maldivian, has also been evacuating Maldivians stranded in foreign countries. As such, over 1,000 Maldivians have been evacuated from regions including India, Sri Lanka as well as Malaysia.

All arrivals are being quarantined in government designated places, and will be released after being tested for the disease.
