Authorities have revised the delivery hours for local shops as well as local restaurants and cafés in the Greater Malé Region.
This was announced via Twitter on Friday, where Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the revision comes due to the high number of pending deliveries at these establishments.
As such, the Tweet reads that wholesalers and retailers in the locked down region will be allowed to deliver on a round-the-clock basis and delivery hours for food outlets are from 08am to 11pm.
This comes at a time the entire Maldives has gone into lockdown following the emergence of eight cases of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in capital Malé City within the past few days. The people have been raising concern due to the hindrances being faced in contacting the shops that are permitted to carry out delivery services.
Earlier, shops and local food outlets were allowed to do deliveries until 11pm.
Authorities earlier publicized a list of local shops and restaurants as well as cafés that have been permitted to make deliveries around the Greater Malé Region amid the lockdown. As such, special permit stickers for delivery services were issued starting from Friday morning.
These stickers were issued from 9am onward and the stations where they will be issued are;
- Malé Tow Yard: 9790121
- Police Station : 9790083
- Hulhumale’ Police Station: 4000007
Earlier, police announced the delivery hours for local shops and food outlets set during the 24-hour lockdown period announced on Wednesday and extended on Thursday. It has since been extended to a period of 14 days.
Authorities have been urging the public to refrain from visiting shops and to order essentials and food items through deliver.
As of Thursday, there have been 28 confirmed cases in the Maldives with the most recent eight cases being discovered in the capital city during the past two days. Since then, the country has gone into a full lockdown, with travel between islands being banned as well.
