Maldives Police Service (MPS) has rescued a total of 24 homeless individuals in capital city Malé, amidst the 24-hour lockdown declared by the government amid the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.
The lockdown was announced on Wednesday following the discovery of the first community transmission case from a house in the capital, three people have tested positive in Malé since.
While police officers have been patrolling the roads since, they have found and rescued a total of 24 homeless individuals and taken them to temporary accommodation facilities arranged by the government.
This was revealed via Twitter earlier on Thursday and officers patrolling Maafannu district of the capital also provided food for the homeless, arranged by the government.
The temporary accommodation was arranged in cooperation with the Maldives Red Crescent.
Authorities have also established a “Police Situation Room” the people can reach out to for urgent needs for essentials.
