Departure of vessels docked in Malé City has been prohibited following the 24-hour lockdown in the city.

Due to the lock down declared by the authorities on Wednesday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed via Twitter that the departure of all “unauthorized vessels” that have been docked in any part of the capital city is prohibited, in accordance with the recent measures enacted by the government.

A 24-hour lockdown was announced by the government shortly after the discovery of the first Covid-19 case in the capital city; the 21st case in the island nation.

As such, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has urged everyone to extend cooperation in the authorities’ efforts to curb the spread of a potential community spread in the Greater Malé region.

As of Wednesday, there have been a total of 21 positive cases in the country and 16 recoveries. With the recent case, six Maldivians have thus far tested positive to the disease, with three of them having recovered. Authorities revealed that the recent case does not have a travel history.
