State Trading Organization (STO) has reduced their prices for perishable items, significantly.
As such, prices for perishable items such as onions and eggs have been slashed, with a kilogram of onions, earlier priced at MVR 15, now being priced at MVR 11.
Sacks of onions will be sold for MVR 250, it was previously sold for MVR 325.
Further, STO has reduced prices for cases of egg trays by MVR 30. As such, egg cases were sold for MVR 290 previously and will be sold for MVR 260 from Tuesday onward. Individual eggs will be sold for MVR 1.50 per egg.
The company is selling a kilogram of potatoes for MVR 12, with a sack of potatoes costing MVR 250.
At a time fears of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic have been increasing among Maldivians as well and with the fasting month of Ramadan ahead, STO has assured the people that staple foods will always be made available as much as the people need them. STO has also arranged for staples and perishables to be delivered to doorsteps, at a time the people have been urged to maintain social and physical distancing, as well as to remain indoors at all times.
