The government-established task force for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the Maldives has revealed that the quarantine period for those in Eriyadu Island Resort has been extended.
This was revealed by spokesperson Mabrook Aziz during a press briefing on Monday night, where he revealed that a number of individuals have been quarantined in Eriyadu Island Resort after a Maldivian student who tested positive upon returning from Philippines, tested positive to the disease.
As such, this results in the extension of the quarantine period those who were earlier quarantined on the island, said Mabrook. The extension is by 14 days.
Further, discussions underway to take additional measures after the Maldivian, patient 20, tested positive while under quarantine on the island.
The spokesperson added that they will be monitoring whether quarantined individuals had met one another and violated instructions while under quarantine during this period, as several individuals on the island have shown symptoms similar to Covid-19.
Following this, samples have been taken from 17 individuals.
In addition, Mabrook revealed that the person being monitored from Grand Park Kodhipparu Resort has tested negative, two times round.
It was also revealed that as of Monday, a total of 2,710 samples have been taken out of which 20 turned positive and 2,572 tested negative. Test results are pending for 18 of these samples.
There are 817 individuals quarantined at the various quarantine facilities established by the government out of which 844 have been released thus far and there are 11 in isolation.
The islands and vessels currently under monitoring are Grand Park Kodhipparu Resort, JOALI Maldives and Maldiviana Safari.
As of Monday, there have been 20 confirmed cases in the Maldives out of which 15 are foreign and five are local cases. Out of this, 14 have recovered and four cases are currently active while the remaining two are cases that were discovered after the patients, two Italians, departed the country. They have since been stopped and quarantined in Moscow, Russia.
