55% of the doctors and nurses employed in the Maldives are currently active in the treatment of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

This was revealed by the spokesperson of the Covid-19 spokesperson, Mabrook Aziz during the routinely press briefing held on Monday night at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) established at Dharubaaruge.

As such, Mabrook revealed that 55% of the doctors and nurses employed in the country are active in the frontlines of treating Covid-19 patients.

He added that 45% of doctors and nurses are active in treating other diseases in the island nation

The spokesperson added that the government will spend on bringing in additional doctors and nurses if it is required, however he said that it is a challenging task due to the number of travel restrictions that have been imposed by several countries.

The government is still working to bring in health professionals, Maldivian doctors and medical students as well as the experts that the country needs, in cooperation with other countries.

Also speaking at the press conference, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq revealed that random sampling will be carried out from expatriates and that arrangements have also been made for health workers to undergo antibody testing.
