The Presidential Inquiry Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances has revealed that the murder case of social media activist and blogger Yameen Rasheed, is at a standstill.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, commission member, Fareesha Abdulla revealed that 10 April marked Yameen’s birthday and that his family is yet to receive justice. This, she said, has drawn public criticism.
Highlighting that the commission’s work is hindered and is at a standstill due to the trial being at a standstill at the court.
Work has also been halted due to the ongoing public holidays, she added.
Further, she stressed that the family’s pain cannot be felt and that it is concerning that adequate solutions have not been provided to date.
Highlighting that his murder was “well-planned”, Fareesha noted that there are several things that should be closely looked into.
The commission is ready to begin work on the case once the trial concludes, said Fareesha, who noted that the commission is ready to share the latest updates of the case with the family.
Yameen was brutally stabbed to death at the stairwell of his apartment building, Maafannu Spatula on 23 April 2017.
Charges for his murder has been levied on Ismail Haisham Rasheed, Hussain Ziyad, Ismail Rasheed, Hassan Shifaz, Mohamed Dhifran , and Ahmed Zihan Ismail.
