The Presidential Inquiry Commission on Murders and Enforced Disappearances has revealed that there have been new findings in the case of abducted and consecutively murdered Minivan News Journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, commission member Fareesha Abdulla revealed that additional findings were received through the forensic analysis report, which is being completed.
With these new findings, there are additional things that require investigation, which has been hindered as these days are public holidays.
Further, Fareesha revealed that the final report will be compiled in the near future, adding that commission members are doing all the work they can, at home as the government offices have been closed.
However, the commission is unable to summon individuals for questioning in the criminal investigations due to the state of public health emergency that has been extended until 30 April.
The commission revealed that they do not wish to proceed with the questioning process through audio or video conferencing, as it is best to summon individuals for questioning, “face to face”.
Both the forensic analysis and final reports will be completed soon, said Fareesha.
The commission was established to fulfill President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's electoral pledge to seek out the truth behind unprecedented murders and disappearances, Rilwan was last seen in August 2014, and police confirmed his abduction two years later in 2016. The inquiry commission revealed that Rilwan was killed by an extremist group in September last year.
Husnu Suood claims that evidence shows Rilwan was abducted, taken to the open sea on a dinghy boat and killed. Passports of 15 individuals have been withheld upon the request of the commission for its investigation.
Husnu Suood had, in December last year, said that investigations showed links between the three murders of Dr.Afrasheem, Yameen Rasheed and Ahmed Rilwan.
