Covid-19: opposition MP "salutes" Indian gov't and air force for timely assistance
 
India facilitated the transport of essential medicines at the request of the Maldivian government, on Thursday
 
Also saluted MNDF and MPS for their “high standards of valor and dedication” for the nation

Vice President of opposition People’s National Congress (PNC), Adam Shareef Umar has praised the Indian government and Indian Air Force for their assistance in bringing in the medicines acquired by the Maldivian government, that was stuck in India.

The former Minister of Defense took to Twitter on Thursday, writing that he “salutes” the government of India and the Indian Air Force for the “cooperation and logistical support extended in delivering the medicines to Maldives” at a time the neighboring country is in lockdown.

Further, he wrote that he salutes the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for their “high standards of valor and dedication” towards the nation during these trying times.

The parliamentarian for Maduvvari constituency’s praise comes at a time the Indian government facilitated the transport of essential medicines at the request of the Maldivian government, on Thursday. As such, 6.2 tonnes of essential medicines were brought to Maldives with the support of the Indian armed forces.

This was done following Maldives’ request to pick them up at various locations of India, at a time the neighboring country’s government has restriction all movement, in and out of India due to the fast-spreading Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Following this, the government of Maldives extended deep appreciation to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi as well as the External Affairs Minister of the country, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar as well as the government and people of India for its "timely assistance" in transporting the shipment.

This is part of the various means of assistance provided by the Indian government, as such, a rapid-response team comprising of 14 medical health professionals were also sent by the Indian government as well as a three-month supply of essential medicines amounting 5.5 tonnes.

Maldives is the first country to receive medical assistance from India during the Covid-19 crisis and also the first to receive 5.5 tonnes of Covid-related medicines
