Authorities have revealed that the four patients who are currently receiving treatment for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the Maldives, are in stable condition.

This was revealed via a press conference on Wednesday night, where Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer, Superintendent of Police, Mohamed Sameer and Public Relations Manager at Bank of Maldives, Mohamed Saeed were in attendance at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) to provide the latest updates of the Covid-19 situation in the country.

As such, Covid-19 spokesperson, Mabrook Aziz revealed that the four remaining Maldivian patients, patient 16, 17, 18 and 19 are in stable condition.

Further, he added that the latest case was reported on Wednesday, after patient 19, a Maldivian, tested positive to the disease upon return from the United Kingdom on Tuesday night. The person is to have shown symptoms of the disease upon arrival.

Refuting reports regarding arrivals from UK, the spokesperson stated that there are individuals of different statuses currently in quarantine, including family members of cabinet ministers. No one is exempt from the quarantine period and reports being circulated through social media, are false, said Mabrook.

He went on to urge the people to refrain from spreading such information that may create uncertainties and doubt among the society.

The government made the decision to run tests on all arrivals from UK between 14 – 19 March on Tuesday. Thus far, 45 samples have been collected from UK arrivals between 14 – 18 March.

Mabrook went on to reveal that a total of 1,204 samples have been collected thus far, out of which 19 have tested positive, including the two Italian tourists who departed from Maldives on Friday. Their test results came through after they departed and they have since been quarantined in Moscow, Russia.

There are a total of 15 individuals in the isolation facility established in Velidhu Island Resort and three in Dharumavantha Hospital.

The total number of quarantined individuals reach 867.

Mabrook also revealed that there were no arrivals into the country on Wednesday and a total of 170 individuals departed Maldives.

Maldives stopped issuing on-arrival visas to inbound tourists last Friday and the government has since revealed that all arrivals will be quarantined for a 14-day period and tested for the fatal virus.
