Some of the Maldivian students residing in Philippines, where the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) global pandemic, is spreading fast, have returned on Friday.
Speaking to press on Friday night, spokesperson for all things Covid-19, Mabrook Aziz revealed that 47 Maldivians have returned on Friday after departing to Qatar on Thursday.
Further, Mabrook added that 16 more Maldivians in Philippines have departed on Friday night and they are expected to arrive some time on Saturday.
Adding that there are several Maldivian communities residing in a number of countries worldwide including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia and Belarus, Mabrook revealed that the government is working to assist those who are stranded.
As such, the government is currently in discussions with the respective government of said countries in order to bring them back or provide any sort of assistance that may be helpful to them.
The spokesperson said that Maldivians will be brought back with any chance the government gets and assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working tirelessly to assist Maldivians stranded abroad.
As such, methods of communication between the stranded Maldivians and the government have also been strengthened, said Mabrook.
This comes at a time the Maldivian community residing abroad when several countries went into lockdown or announced a curfew, have been expressing concern regarding a lack of health insurance and other matters.
Maldivians residing abroad are urged to adhere to regulations and measures implemented by the governments of the respective countries during these trying times.
