Covid-19: gov't announces ninth recovery in Maldives
The announcement was made via a press conference on Thursday night
All nine patients are required to undergo a 30-day isolation period before they can be released
The first ever recoveries were reported on 20 March

The Maldives government has announced the ninth recovery from the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the island nation.

The announcement was made via a press conference on Thursday night, where Dr Mohamed Ali and government spokesperson for all things Covid-19, Mabrook Aziz was in attendance to provide the latest updates regarding the situation of the outbreak in the country.

The patient is to have been treated after testing positive earlier, however, the person has since tested negative, twice.

With this development, there are four positive patients currently being treated.

The nine recovered patients have been placed under quarantine and will undergo a 30-day quarantine period as per protocol.

The first two patients recovered after treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital, one of them, a 70-year-old, was treated for severe pneumonia at the Intensive Care Unit as well.

A day later on Saturday one more recovery was reported followed by two more on Monday.

Five of the recovered patients are three Italian patients and one each from Turkey and South Africa.

Up until Thursday there have been 13 confirmed cases of the virus in the Maldives, all foreigners and from resorts; five from Kuredu Island Resort where the first two cases emerged and two each from Sandies Bathala, Anantara Dhigu and Island Safari 1.
