Two out of the 13 patients who tested positive to the globally-spreading Covid-19 pandemic, in Maldives, have recovered.
Authorities made the reveal on Friday night via a press conference where Minister of Health, Abdulla Ameen was in attendance along with health professionals.
The minister revealed that both patients had tested positive to the virus and were admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital for treatment. One of them, a 70-year-old, was treated for severe pneumonia at the Intensive Care Unit as well.
Earlier, doctors revealed that the condition of the 70-year-old deteriorated for a while and that he was supplied oxygen as his oxygen levels were dropping.
Doctors had predicted his condition to worsen, however, doctors confirmed that his condition began improving, a few days earlier.
Since the recovery has been declared after samples from both patients tested double negative, Ameen expressed hope that the remaining 11 patients will recover, soon.
Both recovered patients will be monitored for an additional 30 days, authorities added.
The 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital has been specially allocated to provide treatment for those who experience deterioration due to the fatal virus. The unit has the capacity to provide treatment for up to 10 people at once.
Up until Friday there were 13 confirmed cases of the virus in the Maldives, all foreigners and from resorts; five from Kuredu Island Resort where the first two cases emerged and two each from Sandies Bathala, Anantara Dhigu and Island Safari 1.
As of Friday night, the number of confirmed cases is at 11.
