All cafés and restaurants in the Greater Malé Region are to be closed off for public dining, reveals authorities.
Minister of Economic Development, Fayyaz Ismail made the reveal via Twitter on Friday.
As such, the minister revealed that local restaurants, cafés and all food outlets are to close their doors for public service from 12am, Sunday onwards.
However, customers will be allowed to order food to go, said Fayyaz.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has since issued an announcement banning all eateries from offering dine-in services as well.
This comes at a time the government spokesperson for all things Covid-19, Mabrook Aziz has been pushing business operators and food outlet owners to close their doors as a precautionary measure against the spread of the fatal infection in the country.
The spokesperson, during Friday's press conference, urged people to leave space between each other while queuing for take-away services and practice caution during coughing and sneezing.
As of Friday, there have are 11 confirmed cases in the country with the Maldives announcing the country's first two recoveries.
