Covid-19: Maldivians in Philippines urged to stick to measures implemented by its gov't

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged all Maldivians to adhere to regulations and measures implemented by the government of Philippines.

The southeast Asian country introduced quarantine measures on capital Manila following a hike in the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases reported in the region.

As such, Manila is quarantined from 15 March to 14 April, the alert status for the country has been risen to “Code Red, Sublevel two”, which means community transmission is proven and cases prevail beyond the government of the respective country can address.

Although the Philippine government has banned citizens from stepping out of their homes between 8pm to 5am, the foreign ministry revealed that flights are still allowed to an from Manila.

As such, the Maldivian community residing there is urged to follow the Philippine government’s decisions and recommendations.

Maldivians residing in the southeastern nation as well as other countries have also been advised to register at the Maldives embassies closest to them, as soon as possible.

The ministry also stressed on the importance of acquiring travel insurance when traveling out of the country, at such a critical time.

Covid-19 has been spreading across the entire globe since the epidemic surfaced from China in December 2019, since then, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a global pandemic and several countries are issuing travel restrictions and bans on countries most affected.
