Covid-19: religious preachers instructed to halt sermons temporarily
Preachers are instructed to conduct sermons through media
This is to be followed until the ministry announces otherwise
Covid-19 emerged in the Maldives on 7 March

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has instructed religious preachers to temporarily halt conducting sermons at local mosques.

The ministry released a statement on Monday, which reads that the instruction is followed as a precautionary measure against the spread of the deadly Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

This comes at a time mounting fear due to the Covid-19, sweeping across the entire globe, has swathed over the entire nation.

Religious sermons and programs are to be halted temporarily effective Monday, said the ministry.

As such, preachers and those licensed to conduct religious programs are required to follow the instructions by the ministry until instructed otherwise.

Instead of conducting public sermons at public spaces, the ministry has urged the preachers to conduct programs and sermon via social media.

Earlier, the ministry urged those who develop Covid-19-like symptoms to refrain from going for congregation prayers as it puts others at risk of catching a flu.
