Police said that the houses of three individuals have been searched

Authorities have conducted searches in three houses on Naifaru island of Lhaviyani atoll, over terror allegations.

Maldives Police Service revealed that the houses were searched over a report filed on 21st February.

Noting that the residences of three individuals were searched over terror allegations on Saturday, police said that “some phones and other electronics” were confiscated.

However, no arrests were made.

Police continue to investigate the case.

While some media outlets report that the report filed at the police is of a possible bomb blast in the island, RaajjeMV was unable to confirm this.

The island council’s president, Mohamed Karim told RaajjeMV that they have yet to receive such information.

Authorities conducted a counter-terrorism operation in Maduvvari island on Raa atoll last December, prompted by the surfacing of an issue relating to a 13-year-old child bride having given birth in the island after being raped and impregnated by a man. Investigations into this showed that a community supporting extremist views, are living on the island.
