268 companies failed to submit GST statements in last quarter of 2019
MIRA tried to reach publicized companies before it was publicized

A total of 268 companies failed to submit GST statements during the last quarter of 2019, revealed Maldives inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

While the reveal was made via a gazette publication, companies include from the Greater Malé Region including the capital, Villimalé and Hulhumalé as well as those from local resorts.

MIRA went on to reveal that the list of names has been publicized as authorized under the set policies.

In addition, the authority also attempted to reach out to those included in the list before publicizing it.

MIRA earlier revealed that they will charge an additional MVR 50 for each day that passes if a company fails to submit the GST statements by the given deadline. A 0.05 percent fine will also be imposed on those who fail to pay taxes within the given deadline, revealed the authority.

The authority recently made it compulsory for companies that earn over MVR five million through an online portal, and they are also required to pay their GST via MIRA connect.
