Ministry contracts companies with harbor development in six islands

Heavy Force Private Limited was contracted the project on Sunday

The Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has contracted two companies with harbor development projects in six islands.

While Heavy Force Private Limited was tasked with a design and build project in Dhidhdhoo island of Alif Dhaal atoll and jetty and harbor development in Rasgetheem island of Raa atoll, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company was tasked with upgrading the harbors in Feydhoo island of Shaviyani atoll, Himmafushi island of Kaafu atoll, Hangnaameedhoo island in Alif Dhaal atoll and Foakaidhoo island of Shaviyani atoll.

Under the contract, Heavy Force is to complete harbor design and build in Dhidhdhoo for MVR 21,956,238 within 300 days. Included in the project are the building of 10 mooring blocks, one ramp, four navigational lights, 13 street lights, a 33-meter revetment and a 272-meter quay wall.

Further, the company has also been contracted MVR 50,000,095 to complete jetty and harbor development in Rasgetheem within 420 days. 14 street lights, one ramp, 10 mooring blocks, two navigational lights, a 145-meter revetment, a 125-meter groin and a 359-meter quay wall are set to be build as part of the project.

In addition, MTCC was contracted to upgrade Himmafushi harbor for MVR 24,602,989 within 365 days, Feydhoo harbor for MVR 33,144,965 within 480 days, Foakaidhoo harbor for MVR 55,974,940 to be completed within 500 days and Hangnaameedhoo harbor for MVR 32, 280,570 to be completed within 300 days.

Under the contracts, the company is to build;

· One ramp, a 287-meter revetment, a 772 square meter pavement, 10 mooring blocks, 18,800 cubic meter harbor dredging, a 38-meter quay wall, four navigational lights and 11 harbor lights in Himmafushi,

· A 378-meter quay wall, two navigational lights, 14 harbor lights, one ramp, a 1,400-squaremeter pavement, 10 mooring blocks and18,900 cubic meter dredging in Feydhoo,

· A 100-meter revetment, 24 harbor lights, two navigational lights, 12 mooring blocks, a 507-meter quay wall, a 2,320-squaremeter pavement and 39,995 cubic meter harbor dredging in Foakaidhoo and

· A 160-meter revetment, a 1,330-squaremeter pavement, 12 mooring blocks, 14 harbor lights, two navigational lights, a 204-meter quay wall and 4,645-cubic meter harbor dredging in Hangnaameedhoo.

While Director General at the Planning Ministry, Fathmath Shana Farooq signed on behalf of the government at the signing ceremony on Sunday, she stated that the projects will commence once the designs are complete and the Environment Impact Assessment reports are compiled.
