Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has located the dinghy that was reported missing on Friday evening.

The dinghy set off from Maamigili island in Alif Dhaal atoll and was on its way to Feeali in Faafu atoll when it capsized. There were three children and a man on-board at the time.

It was found three miles from Himithee island in Faafu atoll.

While officers launched an operation when it received the report of the missing vessel close to 5pm on Friday, Coastguard Commandant Colonel Mohamed Saleem revealed that they were able to locate the missing vessel at around 8:15pm on Friday.

Saleem revealed that the boat lost its direction due to choppy sea conditions, and the people on board at the time were reported safe when they were found.

He added that medical tests will be carried out if required.

The coastguard, as well as the Maldives Meteorological Service, has urged the public to be cautious of the adverse weather conditions for the coming days.
