Ensis is the first ever company to process fish in the Greater Malé Region

A fish processing plant and ice plant by Ensis has been inaugurated in capital city Malé’s suburban extension Hulhumalé on Monday.

The Ensis Canning Factory was officially inaugurated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The factory is an investment of USD 25 million (MVR 385 million) and was constructed as a state-of-the-art facility.

It has the capacity to process 2,000 cases of canned fish on a daily basis and was developed with the aid from Germany’s Development Bank.

The 100-tonne ice plant ensures fishermen can freshly store their catch for the day.

Ensis revealed that it aims to raise its productivity and export value to 1,000 tonnes by 2022.

A USD 25 million Fish Processing Plant, Ensis Fisheries is expected to offer over 400 job opportunities for locals among which 175 are allocated for women and is the first-ever company to process fish in the Greater Malé Region.
