Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has halted its speedboat ferry services to some islands in Haa Dhaal atoll.
The company halted speedboat ferry services to Makunudhoo, Vaikaradhoo, Kumundhoo and Kulhudhuffushi on 1 December.
While the services were inaugurated on 4 August 2019, MTCC did not reveal a reason for ceasing them. Parliament Speaker and former president Mohamed Nasheed had participated in the ceremony to launch the service.
However, in a letter to Kulhudhuffushi Council, the company wrote that the decision was reached following a request by the island community. The services have been halted until another way is sought.
The services were being provided from Makunudhoo to Kuludhuffushi and Kumundhoo for MVR 250 and MVR 200 from Makunudhoo to Vaikaradhoo and Neykurandhoo.
Prices were set at MVR 75 for all other islands where the service was launched, three days a week.
MTCC has been providing ferry services throughout the ‘Greater Malé Area’ between capital city Malé, Villimalé and Hulhumalé as well as the outlying atolls.
