Maldives has taken the lead in the Women’s Asian Central Zone Volleyball Championship after beating Kyrgyzstan in the first match.
The Maldivian team won the match three sets to two.
After a competitive play from both sides in the first set, which the Maldivian team won 26-24, Kyrgyzstan led the two sets that followed with scores of 25-22 and 25-14.
Showing a better performance in the last two sets, Maldives effortlessly won the fourth and fifth sets 25-18 and 15-10.
Although the Maldives team faced several challenges in the championship, the team set off to Bangladesh, where the championship is being held, with an aim to bring home a medal.
Maldives is set to go head to head with Bangladesh on Sunday followed by a match against Afghanistan on Monday. Maldives last match will be against Nepal.
