Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has discussed ongoing development projects in cooperation with India and China with ambassadors from both countries.
In respective meetings on Monday at the ministry building, FM Shahid met with Ambassador of India to Maldives, Sunjay Sudhir and Ambassador of China to Maldives, Zhang Lizhong.
While both countries are significant pillars in the development of Maldives, discussions were held on projects being carried out under the assistance of the governments of both countries and other issues of mutual interest.
The meetings were held after concluding his official visit to Baku, Azerbaijan to participate in the 18th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit on Monday morning.
Prior to that, Shahid accompanied President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on a fruitful visit to Japan, where discussions were held to explore avenues in which relations between both countries may be bolstered.
The Foreign Minister has been resilient in his efforts in line with the government’s goal to strengthen the weakened ties with foreign countries since taking over in November 2018. During the administration of President Abdulla Yameen, ties between Maldives and India had especially soured due to the close priority the former gave to the Chinese government. However, since the new government took over, relations have been observably and equally improving between several countries.
