The Parliament passed MVR 64.91 million budget for the Auditor General’s Office.
The annual budget was passed during Monday’s sitting, with the votes of 82 MPs.
While the Auditor General’s Office had proposed a budget of MVR 64 million for 2020, the public affairs’ committee approved the figure and submitted its report to the parliament floor on Monday.
The committee had dicussed the matter with the finance ministry prior to approval, and noted that the ministry had not objections with the proposed budget for the audit office.
Some of the office’s finances for 2020:
- Auditor General’s salary and allowances – MVR 795,000
- Employees’ salary – MVR 43.98 million
- Pension fund – MVR 1.25 million
- Training programmes for employees – MVR 1.74 million
- Travel and other – MVR 4.89 million
The office received a budget of MVR 60.04 for 2019.
The Auditor General’s Office is required to send a proposed budget to the parliament committee, ahead of the parliament’s vote for the state budget for the upcoming year.
While the finance ministry is to submit the 2020 state budget before Thursday, it is estimated to reach MVR 39.6 billion.
