President meets Mayor of Hiroshima, tours memorial museum
The first couple traveled to Japan last weekend, and are to return on Sunday
Mayor Kazumi graciously welcomed them to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
The president has held several meetings during this trip, and discussed on ways to enhance relations between both nations

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with Mayor of Hiroshima, Japan, on Saturday.

While the president was accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, both also toured the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.

They were received by Mayor Matsui Kazumi.

During the tour, President Solih and First Lady Fazna laid a wreath at the Memorial Cenotaph and signed the guestbook at the museum.

The president and first lady traveled to Japan last weekend, to attend Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement ceremony.

During the trip, President Solih has held several meetings, including with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and discussed on ways to enhance relations between both nations.

The two countries also signed Exchange of Notes during the trip, with a view to further developing friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

While Japan is to provide 500 million yen (over USD four million) to the archipelago nation, which is to be used in counter terrorism efforts.

Maldives and Japan cooperate in the international for a very closely and Japan has been one of the key development partners to the country, having contributed immensely in several sectors.

The President’s Office revealed that Maldives is party to the “Convention on Cluster Munitions” and the “Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons”, being a staunch supporter of international efforts towards demobilization and non-proliferation as well as the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The president and first lady are to conclude their visit to Japan on Sunday.
