Maldives remains committed to UN’s 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development: Solih
"A better life for future generations can be shaped when worked together"
UN Day is celebrated on 24 October worldwide since 1948 and marks the anniversary of the UN Charter

Maldives remains committed to the United Nation’s 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development which charts a complete framework for a better, healthier, safer world, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

In his remarks to celebrate the 74th United Nations Day, Solih gave his assurance that the country will continue in its path in promoting multilateralism, international cooperation and understanding to enhance peace and prosperity across the globe.

Assuring that Maldives remains committed to the 2030 Agenda including the Paris Agreement, Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the president extended keenness to resolve complications through shared knowledge and understanding.

Further, the message adds that the celebration of the day in fact reaffirms the belief in “multilateral decision making” as well as negotiation in achieving peaceful resolutions when conflicts arise.

“UN has remained strong for 74 years since its foundation and is a constant reminder of the importance of shaping a shared future that benefits us all. The Maldives strongly believes in the UN, the principles and spirit of its Charter, and the belief that every single member of the organization brings value to unlock the true potential for peace, progress and prosperity. It is this conviction that consistently brings the Maldives to play its part as a responsible member of UN”
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Highlighting that a better life for future generations can be shaped when worked together, Solih urged the people to step up and raise ambition for meaningful action in order to reverse the harmful changes to our planet and its biodiversity

President Solih had addressed the General Debate at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September, making history as the first Maldives leader to speak at the UNGA in seven years.

The United Nations Day is celebrated on 24 October worldwide since 1948 and marks the anniversary of the UN Charter.
