Maldives looks up to UN as a guarantor of peace and equality: Shahid
Maldives recommits to the values, principles and norms that “bind all of Humanity together”
UN is a true champion for peace and security as well as development and respect for human rights

Maldives has “always” looked up to the United Nations, as a guarantor of peace, equality, rule of law, mutual respect and friendship, says Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.

In commemoration of the 74th United Nations Day, Shahid took to Twitter, writing that the Maldives recommits to the values, principles and norms that “bind all of Humanity together”.

In his message on Friday, the foreign Minister wrote that Maldives will always continue to promote international cooperation based on mutual respect and understanding, as a “passionate” supporter of multilateralism.

“Since joining the UN, the Maldives has been committed to playing a constructive role within the organization. As one of the very few countries to have graduated from the UN’s category of Least Developed Countries” the Maldives has accelerated its accomplishments in the economic, social and political sphere by committing ourselves to the landmark development agendas, most recently the Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement.”

Further, the ministry revealed that Maldives is committed to the ideals of the UN and has untiring faith in the organization as a “catalyst” for positive change.

The Maldives also remains hopeful to address the various needs of a “dynamic world”, which stems from the revolutionary role played by the UN in bringing order to the entire globe as well as promoting international cooperation.

As such, the principles preserved in the “Charter of the United Nations” mirrors its establishment as a “true champion” for peace and security as well as development and respect for human rights.

Maldives praises, the “phenomenal” rise of UN which has in turn become the epitome of multilateralism and a true model for universality across the globe.
