The presidential inquiry Commission on Disappearances and Deaths has begun locating an individual in connection to a case they are probing.
Being sought is 21-year-old Irufan Rushdhee and the commission has appealed on the public to come forth if any information on the man is attained.
Reports have it that Rushdhee is being sought in connection to the murder of 14-year-old Fathir Mohamed Ali in 2016.
It has been three years since authorities have been searching for the man, however, the commission on enforced deaths and disappearances revealed that relevant institutions have failed to locate him.
Further, a Twitter post by the commission cited the Maldives Immigration having said that Rushdhee fled the country in 2015 and never returned since.
However, the man was spotted in the crime scene of Fathir’s murder in 2016, through CCTV footage.
Fathir was stabbed to death by a group on the night of 3 June 2016. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
Before Fathir’s murder, another 14-year-old, Ahmed Irshan Hilmy was stabbed to death earlier the same day. The two murders have since been deemed to be linked.
As such, the latter is deemed a “revenge” for Irshan’s murder in connection to which, three were charged.
Following the commission’s investigation, Maldives Police Service (MPS) had earlier conducted searches in 13 residences in connection to Minivan News Journalist Ahmed Rilwan’s abduction and consecutive murder.
The operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Command, Forensic Service Department as well as the Divisional Police Command.
