The senior men's national team departed to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday

Men’s senior national football team has departed to Saudi Arabia, for a training programme ahead of their match against Syria.

The Maldives team will play against Syria on October 10, in the World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

The team departed on Wednesday, for a training camp. Football Association of Maldives (FAM) is working to set up training matches as well.

The Maldives team played against Guam in their first match in the FIFA World Asian Qualifiers, 1 goal to nil. However, the team lost to China -five goals to none- in the match held at home.

Maldives in Group A, with China, Guam, Syria and Philippines. China is currently in the top spot, while Syria in second place. Phillippines is in fourth place, while Maldives and Guam are in fourth and fifth places respectively.

Maldives and Syria will face each other in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
