National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is working to provide permanent shelter to those who lost their home to the chemical warehouse fire on 20 September.
While everyone affected by the fire that took down four warehouses and six houses were provided temporary shelter within the previous week, NDMA revealed that their inspection of the damaged buildings is also proceeding.
Sharing latest updates about the condition of the buildings, NDMA’s Chief Executive Hisaan Hassan revealed that they are working to move individuals back to houses that are safe to live in.
They have received clearance on four houses thus far.
NDMA is carrying the work out in collaboration with Maldives Red Crescent, Ministry of Health, Malé City Council, and the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure.
Work is proceeding full-steam-ahead with no breaks, said Hisaan, adding that they are removing unsafe items from the buildings that have a risk of falling off.
Highlighting that they have provided assistance for all the expatriates that initially registered for aid after the fire, Hisaan said that however, none of them are currently under their care.
