The government highly prioritizes shaping a generation of skilled and well-learnt youngsters, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The President said this during his address at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Buruni School in the island located in Thaa atoll.
While this is a top priority of the government’s education policy, Solih said that academic excellence is no longer enough and that it is more important to raise a generation that follows the tenets of Islam and has a spirit of love and loyalty for the country.
Highlighting that students need a complete skill set both in academic and practical assets to succeed in life, Solih said that it is important to assess national progress and societal development to revive the education system in order to keep up with international education standards.
Further, Solih stressed that the biggest role any guardian or parent can play for their child is to make sure they raise a healthy and happy child who "proudly" contributes to the society.
Solih also said that plans are underway to initiate a program to train primary school teachers to teach the native language, “Dhivehi”, as it is important for them to learn the language as early childhood educators.
The government’s “Jazeera Raajje” or island nation vision can only be reached with the cooperation from the community to work together, he said.
