President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Takehiko Nakao has stated that ADB is confident that their future development schemes in Maldives will prove to be fruitful, given the sound economic ideas shaping President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s policies.
This statement was made during a courtesy call made by the ADB President to President Solih at the President’s Office on Monday afternoon.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed measures to enhance future engagements including through the provision of small grants and loans at concessional rates through the bank, for the development of important economic sectors like tourism and fisheries in Maldives.
President Nakao stressed on the importance of revenue generated from tourism being "equitably" distributed among the Maldivian people and also noted that every citizen must be able to benefit from these economic profits.
Towards this end, the strengthening of Maldives guest house industry is very important, said Nakao.
Further, they also held discussions on ensuring future development is carried out in a sustainable and responsible manner.
President Solih expressed his gratitude to President Nakao for all the bank has done, since his tenure began in 1978.
Over the years the ADB has been one of the country's most important development partners, proving a boon to the socio-economic development efforts of Maldives, across every meaningful sphere, said the President’s Office.
